Use Email Security to Block Viruses and Kill Spam
Your browser can pick up viruses from trusted websites. As one example there is an exploit called "random js toolkit" reported by Finjan in San Jose, California. It's an elusive Trojan that sends data from your machine to computer criminals.
Your stolen information can include documents, passwords, surfing habitats, or any other sensitive information of use to the criminal. Viruses like these can be detected using Finjan’s patented real-time code inspection technology. More than 10,000 websites in the US were discovered to be infected by the random js toolkit in December, 2007 by this malware.
It cannot be stressed enough that you should always keep current real-time antivirus and anti-malware installed and updated on your computer. There is a trend among cybercriminals to undermine ‘trusted’ web sites. Even when you have a real-time virus scanner, it is wise to get some information on the vulnerabilities and strengths of your email program.
The GFI site tests your email program by sending you number of emails that probe your mail system. That is one example of the links to free security services and software listed at freebyte.com.
