Sharing Your Wireless Linksys Router

Option 1 (less secure)

There are several ways of doing this. I use both options, The first is Mac filtering.
Open Linksys
(192.168.1.1 is the default IP)
and click on the Wireless tab,
then click the Wireless Mac Filter tab
and click on Edit Mac Filter List.
Enter the Mac address for each computer that you want to be able to access the router. Don't forget to add your own.
then click on Save Settings.
On the Wireless Mac Filter page check the box that says 'Permit Only'
and click Save Settings.

Now only the computers whose Mac address you have listed will be able to access your wireless system.

You can add and delete computers whenever you want... but don't forget to save your settings.

Also....Don't forget to change your access password for the Linksys. Urgent

There are other methods and I'm sure one of the other members will explain how they do it.

On Edit: Your Mac address can usually be found on the bottom of your computer, but the easiest way to find it is by clicking start, all programs, accessories and clicking the command prompt. When the Command window opens type: ipconfig/all you may see more then one mac address listed. Make sure to use the mac address listed for the wireless adapter.
The address's will be listed as: XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX

Option 2 (more secure)

Once you open up the Linksys:

Click on Wireless
then click on Wireless Security
and select WPA Shared Key,
then on the same page enter in the third box down (WPA Shared Key) whatever you want.

Then give the other computer the same information. If only the two computers have it and you use safe practices --there is almost NO CHANCE that anyone will ever hack into it.

Good luck!

Please return frequently so you don't miss any of our free incentives.

Sincerely, D'esprit Illusoire..
